Canadian geese by work

"Head's up guys, here comes someone with a camera"

"I'll do my mean body shake and scare her away."

"Maybe if I flap my wings she'll leave."

"Forget it, she's not leaving. Just keep eating."

"There's good bugs over here."

I had read on Pinellas birds that there was a Canadian geese sighting in the cemetery down the street from my office. I threw my camera in the car and was able to drive through there after work recently. It's a small cemetery right off a busy road.  I drove around a little bit and quickly found the flock. They were so close to the road that I didn't even get out of my car. I just snapped the above quickly and left. I don't know if they'll continue south or stay here for the winter. I'll check back in a few weeks to see if they are still there.

  2. Wonder if they're from up here? No you wouldn't have been able to get near them. Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.

  3. We have some locals that favor the soccer fields because of the quality of the fertilized and heavily watered grass.
Interesting markings on the foreheads of the pair in the last photo, I have never seen that eyebrow on Canadas before.

  4. They really do eat a lot of bugs and also lots of growing plants -- usually young weeds. These are very nice photos.

  5. Of course Canada Geese are among my favorite birds, and I love the thought of someone leaping into her car to go see them.
If some of your shorebirds were spotted in our corner of Alberta, I'd probably do the same thing. The kingfisher, or the anhinga, the godwit or the skimmer. Wonderful.
Glad you like our big guys!

  6. Great story, great pictures. We see lots of these geese here in the Netherlands, both in summer and winter time.
